6 VR Learning Models

Learning Through Instruction:
The learner in VR is the recipient of information from a source within or outside of the virtual environment. This source may be a teacher sharing the same physical space, an AI, text cards, or video and audio recordings.

Some Apps that could be used for learning through instruction:

  • Langzou VR Classroom
  • Edmersive

Learning Through Reflection:
The learner organises personal learning artefacts such as work samples and 3D models within a virtual environment. This environment becomes a VR scrapbook of sorts.

Some Apps that could be used for learning through reflection:

    • Langzou VR Classroom
    • Cospaces

    Learning Through Creation:
The learner is in a VR environment, which empowers them to create new things. They can create freely or be given certain creative constraints.

Some Apps that could be used for learning through creation:

      • TiltBrush
      • Medium

      Learning Through An Experience:
The learner interacts with a virtual environment in an experiential way. They are not passive; however, they will typically have limited agency in the scene.

Some Apps that could be used for learning through an experience:

        • Theblu
        • Google Earth VR

        Learning Through Collaboration:
The learner solves problems in VR in collaboration with others. The learning partners do not necessarily have to be in VR.

Some Apps that could be used for learning through collaboration:

          • Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
          • Langzou Vr Classroom

          Learning Through Design:
The learner uses tools in VR as part of a broader, possibly iterative, design process. Stages of this process may take place outside of VR.

Some Apps that could be used for learning through design:

            • Sketchup
            • Unity

These learning models are a working progress and can be used in combination with each other to enhance learning outcomes. If you can think of more Apps that use a specific learning model please email us and we will add it to the lists.
